FEPORTS DELIVERS THE WEB TOOLKIT "GUIA COASTGAP" FOR THE BEST PRACTICE "EIA GUIDELINES"

Valencia (SP), May 2015. FEPORTS developed and delivered the Web-Toolkit "Guia COASTGAP", in spanish, that integrates the EIA Guidelines (BP1 of COASTGAP project) with others focused on the same topics. The guides integrated in the toolkit come from different Institutions (eg. ISPRA, Spanish Ministry) and projects (eg. Interreg Med BEACHMED). Moreover, FEPORTS translated the EIA Guidelines in spanish and added an annex to facilitate their use in Valencian Region, as key information about legislation, EIA procedures, target users, adaptation of matrix and habitats, etc.

These tools are the concrete outputs of the capitalisation process of this Best Practice in Valencia Region.

 


THE BOLOGNA CHARTER AND THE JAP AT THE JOINT MEETING OF EC EXPERT GROUPS ON ICM & MARITIME SPATIAL PLANNING

Brussels (BE), 21-22nd April 2015. The CPMR, as member of the EC Expert Group on ICM and MSP, is giving communication at the Joint Meeting in Brussels on the Bologna Charter Joint Action Plan (JAP), delivered in the frame of COASTGAP project, with the aim of:

- raising awareness on issues related to Med coastal zones management/defence/adaptation;

-  requesting and contributing to a macro-regional and basin maritime strategy for the Mediterranean Sea;

- involving also the higher levels of National/European/International authorities (already in an advanced phase in IT, GR, F and ongoing in E and HR);

- demanding the definition of tools and financial resources for BC and JAP, as well as the launching of specific project calls.

 


ISPRA PUBLISHED A SCIENTIFIC PAPER ON THE COASTGAP BEST PRACTICE "EIA GUIDELINES"

Rome (IT), April 2015. ISPRA (the Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research), external partner of COASTGAP project, published in “Coastal and Beach Erosion” the scientific paper Coastal Defence Works: A Proposal of A Matrix-System to Support Environmental Impact Studies, that goes in depth in the BP1 EIA Guidelines, one of the Best Practices capitalised by the COASTGAP project: “The matrix-system allows to know in advance, for different coastal defence solutions, the main potential impacts on the environment, in particular on the protected habitats and their associated flora and fauna species. This system is intended to be a simplified and useful tool for technicians and Administrations involved in the drafting and/or assessment of  environmental impact studies related to coastal defence works”.

FINAL JOINT CAPITALISATION EVENT IN BRUSSELS

Brussels (BE), 24-25th March 2015. The seminar "THE MED CAPITALISATION: CONTRIBUTING TO A STRONGER EUROPE" held at the Committee of the Regions in Brussels in a joint initiative by the thirteen MED capitalisation projects.

The 24th-first day ("From MED capitalisation to European policies") focused on the capitalisation process itself and offered the occasion to exchange experiences with other European Territorial Cooperation programmes and structures that followed very different approaches and strategies.

The 25th-second day ("Project results for improved policies") provided insights on the results of the MED capitalisation projects: the recommendations, tools and good practices that emerged from these projects havel been illustrated. 

COASTGAP project attended the event with a strong delegation of partners, in order to endorse the good results achieved by the project and to distribute the project deliverables, like the “Joint Action Plan on MED Adaptations to Climate Change”.

On the 23rd of March, indeed, the COASTGAP partners presented the final version of theJoint Action Plan on MED Adaptations to Climate Changeto the EU DGs dealing with the maritime issues, involving also the national representatives (Ministries) of several countries.


JOINT MEETING WITH ENV GREEK MINISTRY

Athens (GR), 18th December 2014. A very proactive meeting has been held in Athens between several representatives from the Greek Ministry of Environment and the Hellenic partners of COASTGAP European project: Decentralised Administration of Crete and REMTH. The mainstreaming of COASTGAP is then going on by the focal endorsement of the Bologna Charter and the Macro-Project by the Greek national level. Consequently a first official act of endorsement is going to be signed and a participation of the Ministry of Environment to the next meeting on COASTGAP issues in Bruxelles with DGs is expected (see the minutes).


LOCAL MEETING IN NICOSIA WITH STAKEHOLDERS

Nicosia-Cyprus, 11th-12th December 2014. The Public Works Department of Cyprus organized a local stakeholders meeting. The main purpose of the meeting was to inform local stakeholders about Coastgap and Coastgap Best Practices.

During the first session the Coastgap project and four Best Practices (EIA, Bologna Charter, Sicell, and Regional Strategic Plan) were presented.

During the second session case studies from Cyprus and Crete regarding coastal erosion were presented. Finally a general discussion took place about possible protection measurements and ways to implement Coastgap results. On the 12th a technical field trip was organized in the area of Larnaca.


COASTGAP AUDIT REPORT DELIVERY

Florence (I), 2nd December 2014. PAP/RAC, the UNEP/MAP component specialised in ICZM and in charge of institutional coordination of ICZM Protocol implementation, delivered the "COASTGAP Audit Report" since External Quality Advisor of COASTGAP BPs capitalisation process and products.

The report covers the work done and outputs delivered by the project partners.


MED COOPERATION DAYS: FINAL COASTGAP EVENT IN ROME

Signature Letter of Political Endorsement MoURome (I), 10-12 November 2014. The closing Coastgap event took place during the initiative Mediterranean Cooperation Days, jointly organized by the Lazio Region, the CPMR-Intermediterranean Commission, Platforma and the key collaboration of the EU Med programme projects COM&CAP MarInA-Med.

One of the most prestigious outcomes of the event, the signature by Mr. Fabio Refrigeri as Regional Minister for Infrastructures, Housing and Environment of Lazio Region (IT) and Mrs. Monique Pétard as Deputy President of Department of Hérault (FR) of the “Letter of Political Endorsement of the Memorandum of Understanding for the promotion of Mediterranean Network of Coastal Observatories” fostered by COASTGAP Project.
